Kriti Sanon is our Julia Roberts. Many, however, will say it is a bit premature to compare the actress to the Hollywood icon who has a career spanning decades and multiple award-winning performances. But Sanon is not far from achieving that success—she is poised to be the next big star in Bollywood.
Ever since her debut opposite Tiger Shroff in Heropanti in 2014, she has proved her acting prowess with her powerful performances. Sanon’s on-screen presence and her ability to portray a wide range of emotions have earned her a lot of praise. Today, she is a household name. Sanon has proven her versatility as an actress through her performances in films such as Dilwale, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Luka Chuppi, and Mimi. She has shown an ability to bring a certain charm and depth to her roles, and her screen presence is undeniable—she has a magnetic personality that draws audiences to her.
She has played a wide range of roles, from a quirky small-town girl to a confident and independent woman, and has managed to impress audiences with her performances.
What sets Sanon apart from her contemporaries is her natural acting style and her ability to make even the most mundane scenes come to life. She has a natural flair for comedy and can effortlessly switch between different emotions, making her a versatile actor.
Apart from her acting talent, Sanon is also a style icon, and her fashion choices are closely watched by her fans. She has a unique sense of style and is not afraid to experiment with different looks. Her confidence and poise both on and off-screen have made her a role model for young women across the country.
Tell her that she is our Julia Roberts and she is quick to respond with a smile that blazes in her eyes, “That’s a huge compliment.” She will be seen next in Adipurush opposite Prabhas sometime in June. If industry insiders are to be believed, Sanon’s performance is expected to be the highlight of the film.
That’s easy to believe because the actor can make even a boring scene stand out simply by her presence and talent.
Don’t believe me, watch Bachchan Pandey!
While on talent and being a trailblazer, another powerful actor that comes to mind is Ekavali Khanna. However, this powerhouse of talent is not getting her due despite being up there where performances are concerned. Known for her nuanced performances in films and web series, Khanna has often played supporting roles or character parts, rather than being cast in lead roles. This probably has limited her visibility and exposure to wider audiences and made it more challenging for her to break through in the big league.
Khanna’s strength as an actor lies in her ability to convey a wide range of emotions with ease. She can effortlessly switch between different moods, from intense and dramatic to lighthearted and humorous. Her performances are nuanced and realistic, and she brings a sense of authenticity to every character she portrays on-screen.
Though reward in the form of bigger roles have not come her way, her performances have not gone unnoticed by critics and film aficionados. Khanna has been praised for her portrayal of complex and multi-dimensional characters, and her performances have been called “brilliant” and “heartfelt” by critics. The actor has also won several awards for her performances, including the Best Actor Award at the Ottawa Indian Film Festival Awards, Ottawa, Canada for her role in Angrezi Mein Kehte Hain.
Her performance in What Will People Say is what iconic characters are. In the last 20 minutes of the film, Khanna is systematically cruel as she goes about planning her daughter’s marriage. No emotion. All she wants is to pack the ‘troublemaker off’. In the initial scenes, she comes across as this warm mother. No hitch in the switch of portrayal from warm and loving to cold and calculated.
It is unfortunate that talented actors like Khanna often struggle to get the recognition they deserve in an industry that is largely driven by commercial success. She has not yet been able to make a mark in mainstream cinema, which is dominated by star power and big-budget films.
Hopefully, in the coming years, we will see Khanna getting the recognition and opportunities that she rightfully deserves.
Like Kriti Sanon, Ekavali Khanna is a bright star. A performer who moulds her persona to the character she portrays.
