Lieutenant Colonel Vivek Panwar is Opening Doorz on his workout routine, eating habits, and spiritual quotient…

Health means different things to different people. For some, it’s about maintaining a positive body image; for others, it’s about being free from illness or achieving a particular physical aesthetic. For me, it’s a blend of all these elements in the right proportions. I have my indulgences—like a sweet tooth and an occasional drink—but I believe the key is moderation. While I’m not saying these habits are ideal for achieving specific fitness goals, for me, it’s always been about balance.

Workout Routine

I’ve always been an active person. Growing up, I spent hours playing various sports, rarely watching TV, except to catch my favourite NBA team or an international sports event. In school, sports were part of my everyday life. I was the sports captain and represented Delhi in Basketball Nationals, which was a big deal then, and perhaps less common now.

When I went to college to learn engineering, I found less time for sports, but my life took a new turn when I joined the Army. It was here that I understood the power of the human mind and body. As a young officer, I participated in numerous sports and professional competitions which involved a lot of running. This helped build my stamina and enhanced my endurance levels.

After a sports injury, I was advised to undergo surgery, but instead, I turned to the gym. Although it was tough initially, gradually, I regained my strength. Now, the gym is my sanctuary, not just a place to exercise but also to recharge for the next day.

Eating Habits

I’m not a big fan of strict diets. My focus is on avoiding processed foods and eating in moderation. While I love sweets—which isn’t ideal for health—I’ve managed to balance by replacing sugar with alternatives like jaggery or honey and avoiding overindulgence. For protein and carbs, I stick to simple, home-cooked meals. My day starts with two glasses of lukewarm water, and I aim for 4 to 5 liters of water depending on my activity level. I keep my meals balanced with a good mix of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.

Spiritual Quotient

Maintaining mental and spiritual health is essential in today’s fast-paced world. Each of us needs to find our unique way to manage stress—whether through meditation, yoga, family time, or deep breathing exercises. I used to be quick to anger, but I’ve discovered what works for me. My mornings begin with 10 minutes of deep breathing followed by a run to clear my mind. In the afternoons, I take a quick nap and spend some time at the gym, while evenings are reserved for family and friends. I make a conscious effort to leave work at the office, even if it means staying a little later, so I can fully engage with my personal life when I get home.
