Suchitra Ayappa on her workout routine, eating habits and spiritual quotient…

Workout Routine

I do a simple 60-minute routine every day, without fail. Thrice a week, it’s a mixture of cardio and weights and functional training and yoga. And the other days I walk for about 45 minutes to an hour.

Eating Habits

My diet consists mainly of raw foods; simple vegetarian fare either steamed or briefly stir-fried in Olive oil. I follow Intermittent Fasting: after a light dinner, my next meal is post 16 hours. I start my day with celery juice and a very light raw food lunch. Dinner may be soup and steams veggies. I ensure I have a handful of nuts and seeds and dry fruit daily. I eat like a hermit most days, but weekends I ease up and enjoy a cheat meal or twoNo dairy, no sugar, no processed foods for me whatsoever. I make sure I drink lots of water too. I do love my coffee, since it’s a very big part of not only my inheritance but also my work. One or two large cups a day.

Spiritual Quotient

I’m blessed with an in-built anti stress mechanism. These are few of the things I live by:

  • Don’t worry about things you can’t control.
  • Give more than you get.
  • Forgive and forget.
  • Simplify your life by de-cluttering everything from things to spaces to relationships.
  • Maintain a journal of things you love, of goals… it helps when inspiration is needed, and to put things in order.

I’ve always been one to say “No” to things that are not inspiring to me. My phone is off on Sundays and is used only on camera mode on holidays. I don’t even glance at it when I’m with family and friends. (Yes…  we are a dying breed!) Mentorship is a part of my life through the Lighthouse Project. It’s an excellent opportunity for anyone who can make time for another human being. The benefits are both ways. It helps us to see life through a different perspective and urges one to engage in something bigger than just ‘ourselves’.

The meek shall inherit the earth
“I start my day with celery juice and a very light raw food lunch,” says Suchitra Ayappa.

I believe our children should inherit a peaceful world, so it’s up to us and the footprints we leave as adults to make sure. If there’s something or someone that needs immediate attention, I am always up for it—animal rescue, vet attention, street kid’s welfare. It’s all part of creating better lives for people around us who are less fortunate. It’s in fact something that we are all born with and capable of; we only need to build it into our lives. I’m fortunate that both my children see it as part of their lives too. I guess that’s why they say that kids don’t do as you say but do as you do!

I’m a lover of anything vintage; there’s beauty in simplicity and there is no greater teacher than nature. Also the words: “The meek shall inherit the Earth,” has always struck a chord with me. We live in a world that revolves around power, but I do feel mild-mannered people truly have strength under control, and are happier and will finally have the power that transcends brute force and ultimately make this world a better place. The new crop of children have a different sensibility and a unique perspective on the way they want to live their lives; this is going to change the course of history!
