Molly Sweeney, directed by Rehan Engineer, which debuted in Delhi on October 10, 2017, and ran till October 16, is coming to Mumbai from April 19 till 22, 2018, at G5A Foundation, Mahalakshmi.

Molly Sweeney (a play by Irish playwright Brian Friel), is the story of Molly, blind since infancy, who is leading a contented and fulfilling life despite her disability. One fine day, her husband Frank—an untiring champion of good causes, and self-taught expert in Iranian goats and Ethiopian bee-farming—persuades her to undergo a series of operations that might restore her sight.

Their potential saviour is Mr. Rice, an internationally-renowned eye surgeon who abandoned his glittering career and took to drink when his wife left him for one of his colleagues, and whose slumbering ambitions are awakened one last time when he meets Molly. The story is told from the shifting perspectives of Molly, Frank and Rice, in interweaving monologues that combine to make a powerful drama examining the connection between seeing and understanding, and how we create the worlds in which we live.

“Because of it minimalist set design, we plan to travel with it further to Bangalore and other cities after our Mumbai run,” says producer Vidushi Mehra who also plays Molly. “We received an overwhelming response as the shows ran to packed audiences for all Delhi shows,” she adds.

Frank Sweeney (Molly’s husband) is played by Farhad Colabavala while Samar Sarila (who is also the producer of the show, along with Vidushi) plays Mr. Rice, the eye surgeon.
