The essence: Milap Zaveri, who also credits himself with the writing, has himself to blame for this shoddy piece of craft that would have best been appreciated in the 90s!

Marjaavaan has no strong story line. At best, it is a 90s wishy-washy plot. Vengeance, supposed to be the basis of the plot, is at its weakest point. Ditto the love angle which comes out of nowhere (with an interpreter), has no source and is gone—just like that.

The girls, Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh have no role whatsoever; their characters are so weak that you feel sorry for them. Tara Sutaria as Zoya, the dumb girl, has the dumbest role. Ditto Rakul Preet Singh as Aarzoo, the prostitute.

Raghu (Siddharth Malhotra) is Anna’s (Nassar) go to man to wreak havoc and protect his kingdom which thrives on every evil vice. Raghu, we later learn was an abandoned infant nurtured by Anna. Hence, Raghu is ready to heed to every order, even that of bringing a storm into his own life as well. At the other end of the plot is Vishnu (Riteish Deshmukh), stunted at birth, seething with envy as his father leans more on Raghu.

Milap Zaveri is on point with his ‘Anna calling the shots’ plot until Zoya enters the scene. What follows next even challenges the Houseful franchise.

From here on, the plot saunters from love to revenge as Vishnu tries to push his three-foot frame onto the scene.

Apart from Siddharth Malhotra, no actor has a role. Siddharth is good with his ‘angry young man’ performance. Nassar as expected does his bit; but he too is left short on performance for want of meat in the script.

That leaves us with Riteish Deshmukh who plays a villainous dwarf. This performance cannot match his Rakesh from Ek Villian. That was terrific. Here, you can see him try but for want of a sound footing for revenge things go all over the place.

Milap Zaveri, who also credits himself with the writing, has himself to blame for this shoddy piece of craft that would have best been appreciated in the 90s!
