The essence: The story held promise on paper. How it was executed, would have always been the driving force. Having said that, there were huge gaping holes in the plot that defied logic.
In the entire 90 minutes of its duration, only around seven minutes hold your attention, that too towards the fag end. Both, Richa Chadda and Kalki Koechlin, struggle to impress the audience about the characters they play. There’s no promise in the plot as Richa lets go of her character after a few minutes when she realizes there is nothing she can give to the audience. Kalki, on her part, tries hard to inject some life with her talent, but that is not enough.
Everything falls apart. Even the guy (Arslan Goni) who is introduced to spice up the proceedings between the two Jias, who are on a holiday in Sweden, is like Mahendra Singh Dhoni when he first faced Pakistan’s Shoaib Akhtar—all at sea.
Howard Rosemeyer who makes his debut as a director has just those seven minutes when the intensity magnifies. But it’s like smashing four sixes in the last over when you have over 200 runs to win in a cricket match!
One Jia (Richa) is from a business family who has fallen on rough times; the other is on a trip to ‘feel life’. The rich Jia cannot afford a posh hotel and settles for twin sharing, and as the script would have it, she is paired with the other Jia. One is full of life, while the other is, expectedly, morose. Morose Jia is not able to handle chirpy Jia’s zest for life. However, towards the end (as their back life is revealed), both become inseparable.
The story held promise on paper. How it was executed, would have always been the driving force. Having said that, there were huge gaping holes in the plot that defied logic which even a director of Anurag Kashyap’s caliber, would have found difficult to execute!
