The essence: The little suspense interest that is embedded in the plot (in a story that is told in part opera, part play, part Bollywood format) is of little interest as 161 minutes of run-time come to a close. In the end you realize why there was no much ‘marketing’ in the ‘paid media’.

Jagga Jasoos is like a destination wedding. A lot of expense by the parents from both sides to impress the guests, who have been flown in for free, put up in a fancy hotel and are having a ball of a time with the sangeet and mehendi ceremonies along with all the other ceremonies you have before the actual wedding ceremony. By the time the actual wedding takes place, the guests are just wanting to go back home!

The movie is easy on the eyes with colourful sets and well-choreographed songs to represent spoken dialogues, a la an opera. But alas, the plot which holds interest mid-way till the first half, loses most of its sensibility as the film crawls to an end.

The only saving grace is Ranbir Kapoor with his stammering act. You can just look at him and admire the way with which he holds fort even as everything around him crumbles. His chemistry with his one-time girlfriend, Katrina Kaif is as fresh as ever. They look as madly in love as they were when they did (or rather after they did) Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani.

If you are a Ranbir Kapoor fan and are willing to sacrifice 161 minutes of your life, by all means watch it.

The rest can dig out a Hardy Boys or a Nancy Drew novel!
