The essence: Golmaal Again is a good one-time watch. You venture expecting no logic; you exit getting more laughs than expected.

It’s a laugh riot for the entre first half with Rohit Shetty adding another Laxman (Kunal Khemu) to the already existing one (Shreyas Talpade). There’s Gopal (Ajay Devgn), Madhav (Arhsad Warsi) and also the lovable Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor) along with Khushi (Parineeti Chopra).

This Golmaal begins in an orphanage in Ooty. Jamnadas Orphanage is where these five grow up before going their own way in two batches. Gopal and Laxman (Shreyas) move out first, after they have been reprimanded. They are soon followed by the other three. Both are at loggerheads with each other until they realise they have to come together to save Khushi, the child they found abandoned at the orphanage gate and who grew up in their midst. All five doted on her and now they unite to help her save the orphanage.

It’s a ‘let-your-hair-down-moment’ the entire first half as one gag after another delivered with perfect comic timing by all five, light up the screen. The moment they are ‘attacked’ by a bhoot, all break into the ‘Nana Patekar Mode’, one after another. Speaking of bhoot, there’s also Tabu who plays the librarian Anna with a special gift of seeing ghosts! It’s her they go to in the end to get to the bottom of the problem.

Ajay Devgn as this character who if afraid of the dark along with Shreyas Talpade have hilarious moments where one tries to comfort the other. As the violent Gopal, Devgn is in his elements timing his punches to effect the necessary laughs. Ditto Shreyas, who speaks with a lisp. Kunal Khemu surprises with his flair for comedy while Tusshar continues from where he has left… going ya ya with glee. Watch him when he breaks into the ‘Nana Patekar Mode’.

Parineeti Chopra has nothing much to do as the gags are mostly centered around these five. Another actor who comes in late and makes an impact is Neil Nitin Mukesh. It’s a pity we are seeing so less of him.

While Rohit keeps the tempo upbeat throughout the first half, he goes downhill with the plot and the gags as soon as he reveals the secret of the bhoot at the interval.

After that, it appears, he is struggling to survive with all his energies already spent. The gags look watered down as he labours to bring the film to its logical end… even though the posters says that there is no logic!

Golmaal Again is a good one-time watch. You venture expecting no logic; you exit getting more laughs than expected.
