Vision 2030 is not just a catchphrase on paper: It’s an emotion in action, the seriousness of which can be seen in motion in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The recently-concluded, first annual Global Labor Market Conference (GLMC) held in Riyad from December 13 to 14, 2023, was another of the many global events which was conducted by the KSA to push forward its Vision 2030. Delegates from across the globe converged at the King Abdul Aziz International Conference Center for the conference which saw local stakeholders forging tie-ups with global partners to ensure Vision 2030 takes shape onward and forward.
Central to the success of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 is the recognition that every individual is not just a mere participant but a crucial cog in the wheel, driving the nation toward its ambitious goals. The Global Labor Market Conference highlighted this fundamental principle, emphasizing the pivotal role each person plays in the implementation of the vision. Unlike traditional top-down approaches, Vision 2030 places a strong emphasis on inclusivity. The conference shed light on how Saudi Arabia views its citizens, and stakeholders from across the globe, not as passive beneficiaries but as active contributors to the nation’s progress. This inclusive approach is a departure from conventional models, where only a select few are considered instrumental in shaping the future.

H.E. Ahmed bin Sulaiman Al-Rajhi, the Saudi Minister for Human Resources and Social Development, welcomed the conference as a much-needed platform for promoting labor market harmony during a time of unprecedented disruption. Minister Al-Rajhi expressed gratitude to the Kingdom’s leadership for its contributions to a more resilient labor market on a national, regional, and global scale through Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 transformation agenda. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia aspires to set an example for labor markets and recognizes that the success of Vision 2030’s ambitious goals hinges on broad collaboration within the global community.
The Global Labor Market Conference focussed on eight main tracks: global labor market catalysts, skills and productivity conundrums, labor market makeovers, work for all, artificial intelligence, the labor market reengineered, the right way to deregulate, and the future-proofed organization.
This event stemmed from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development’s willingness to engage in discussions regarding the latest visions and innovative ideas related to labor markets worldwide. This aligned with the Ministry’s vision of emphasizing the role of employers and governments in creating a harmonious and inclusive labor market while establishing internationally recognized models and practices, in line with the Kingdom’s objectives through various conference activities.
Jude Althagafi, Policy, and Impact Senior Analyst (Takamol Group), speaking at the last Fireside Chat—What Would a Great Labor Market Future Look Like? summed it up best when she said: “Work is more than a paycheck.” She also spoke about security and flexibility for the entire workforce with accessibility to facilities across the board.
It was a valuable insight from Jude Althagafi, who is a skilled professional specializing in public policy research, economic analysis, and sustainable socioeconomic solutions for the Saudi Arabian labor market.

The conference showcased that Vision 2030 is a strategic roadmap guiding Saudi Arabia towards economic diversification and sustainable development. The meticulous organization and execution of the Global Labor Market Conference underscored the kingdom’s seriousness in taking transformative steps. The invitation extended by the kingdom through every sector (across the globe) emphasized that every individual plays a crucial role in the implementation of their vision. The last-mile effort to ensure participation highlighted Saudi Arabia’s dedication to making a collective impact. The Global Labor Market Conference wasn’t just a platform for discussions; it was a space for forging important partnerships. The focus on the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), banks, and other sectors demonstrated Saudi Arabia’s strategic approach to building alliances crucial for the realization of Vision 2030.
The fire-side talks at the Global Labor Market Conference featured speakers from various sectors, both within Saudi Arabia and internationally. Their insights provided a holistic view of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. From innovation in technology to sustainable practices, the discourse reflected the dynamic nature of Saudi Arabia’s vision and its alignment with global trends. Beyond the intellectual exchange, the hospitality extended during the conference left a lasting impression. The 24×7 flow of food and beverages exemplified the kingdom’s commitment to ensuring not just a productive but also a comfortable environment for the participants. It was a reflection of the Saudi tradition of warm hospitality extended to guests.

The Global Labor Market Conference echoed a powerful message: that Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 is not just a grand plan orchestrated by a few, but a collective endeavor where every individual’s contribution is essential. Like I said in the beginning, “Vision 2030 is an emotion in action, the seriousness of which can be seen in motion in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.”
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia firmly believes that one does not labor in vain; in God they trust. And they know that there will be rich fruits to harvest from their Inaugural Global Labor Market Conference. Their National Carrier, Saudia, formerly known as Saudi Arabian Airlines proudly displays this message on the tip of the nose of their aircraft: GOD BLESS YOU!
