“I’m a teetotaller. I don’t even drink tea or coffee, so I cannot even get tipsy on coffee. But once in a blue moon, I will have a glass of wine. And then that one glass of wine which I do take once in two years is enough to get me tipsy!” reveals Natasha Suri whose latest movie Tipppsy, directed by Deepak Tijori, releases this Friday.

The former Miss India World opens up with Opening Doorz speaking about ‘Tipppsy’, Tanya, her character, and the real Natasha Suri.

Excerpts:

What is Tipppsy all about?

The film is about female friendship, adventure, a thriller, mystery, whodunit. It is a whole roller coaster ride. A lot of films have been made on male friendships and bachelor parties, but I feel that bachelorette parties have not been targeted as much. So, I think it will be quite an interesting thing for audiences to watch because they all want to know, ‘What do girls do on a bachelorette? What kind of masti do they do?’  And here, unfortunately, we also get entangled in a messy situation.

And what is your role in the movie?

The film is about five girls: T for Tanya, I for Iris, P for Pony, S for Selene, and Y for Yami– Tipppsy. I am playing Tanya in the film. We are five girls, and one of us is getting married. At the bachelorette party, things take a U-turn and we all get into a mess.

It is spelt Tipppsy. Is there something about ‘P’ony we should be looking out for?

[Laughs] That is just numerology.

Tipppsy Natasha Suri: “I liked the subject of the film—it has all the elements of an entertainer. “

What drew you to this role?

I liked the subject of the film—it has all the elements of an entertainer. As an audience, I would like to watch a subject like that.

Do you identify in any way with Tanya? Is there anything you take away from the character?

Both of us have a certain kind of ‘oomph’ factor. Our exteriors are similar. She’s a hottie, supposedly, she has got all this sass about her. Being a model, externally, that looks part of it, has certainly been a part of my life. One more thing that’s similar to me and Tanya is that she is a yaaro ka yaar, she is there for her people. She is intelligent, she’s headstrong, and she’s a go-getter.

Anything that is not similar?

What is not similar about Tanya and I, is that Tanya is very flamboyant, and flashy. I don’t think I’m flamboyant or flashy in real life. I’m fairly simple as a person. The kind of life I’ve led is far removed from the life of Tanya. Tanya loves to drink, and I don’t drink or smoke. I’m a teetotaller, and that is a huge difference between me and her. I don’t believe in showing off, and I don’t crave attention. Tanya loves being the center of attention. I am very relaxed,

Tipppsy Natasha Suri: “I hope the film is liked and well received by the audiences.”

Considering the difference between Tanya the character and you in real life, it would have been difficult for you to ‘create’ this character.

Absolutely. It was out of my personality to be like that; to create Tanya, who is flamboyant and flashy was a different experience. I hope that this turned out well.

What are your expectations from this movie, in terms of your career?

I hope the film is liked and well received by the audiences. I hope it translates into better opportunities for me as an actor, and for the other actors as well. That is what an actor wants–a platform to showcase one’s potential. I also hope that this film gives me more opportunities to showcase my talent.

What message do you hope the audience takes away from your character and the journey of the other girls?

The movie is really about female camaraderie and female friendships. You know, people say that women cannot be friends. It’s true in a lot of cases. But once women find their ‘gang’, they feel at home with their friends. So, the message is that when you find your people, go all out to protect them, and have their back. Operate like a unit.

There is also a message that I would like to give personally, as an actor. Everybody should hang on to their dreams. Whatever is it that you want to achieve (no matter how many hurdles or obstacles come your way), just keep walking. Don’t give up. The universe will slowly open doors for you.

Tipppsy Natasha Suri: “As an actor, one is hungry for work. I would like to do a lot of quality work. I would also love to explore the comedy and action genre.”

Are you particular about specific genres where acting is concerned?

I would like to do all genres. As an actor, one is hungry for work. I would like to do a lot of quality work. I would also love to explore the comedy and action genre. I think my journey pretty much has been slow and steady. And I hope that in the coming years, I get to do more and more quality work.

What are your future projects besides Tipppsy?

My last film was Dangerous with Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover. Now, there’s Tipppsy. I am reading a couple of scripts, and if everything goes well I will have a few more projects to talk about.
