Behind the glamour of a blockbuster announcement lies a decade of quiet struggle. Critics may label Riteish and Genelia’s emotional moment as "staged PR," but for those who know their journey, it represents the authenticity found at the heart of their partnership.
Here is why that emotional stage in Mumbai wasn’t about “eyeballs and footfalls,” but about the weight of words, the endurance of a creator, and the sacred strength of a marriage.
At Opening Doorz, we’re moving past the glitz to see the raw, vulnerable humans behind the headlines.
To everyone who watched the video of an emotional Riteish Deshmukh extolling the virtues of and camaraderie with his wife, Genelia, and the actress subsequently choking with emotion, it appeared to be a staged act to gain eyeballs and footfalls for their next venture, Raja Shivaji.
A perfect recipe for an aligned algorithm.
That it happened at a promotional event makes it appear staged, hence some nasty comments by trolls whose only job is to peddle vitriol.

The Creative Weight, The Satisfied Sigh
But to those who know the couple, they know what Riteish says. They understand what he means and feel the weight of every word he speaks. Because Riteish means it. And everyone on that stage felt the weight of his words. A project close to his heart, which failed to take off for over a decade, is bound to break one down after its completion.
And it is bound for the person who was pregnant with the idea for so long, to break down after finally seeing his baby delivered. It is the same with a mother who first glimpses her newborn in the hands of a nurse.
From a creator’s perspective, the joy of seeing your work finally take shape and life is inexplicable. And right enough, he knew that this was a team effort. Riteish proved on that stage that he is a team man.
Real Couple, Real Struggles, Real Life
For a marriage to work, both partners have to sync—emotionally, physically, and spiritually. For the world outside, they always see the glamour. To the few who know them, they see humans.
Real humans, with all the pain, struggle, and suffering any normal human goes through, which the outside world thinks they are insulated from. They have the luxury of glorifying the pain and seeking sympathy. They don’t. For them, pain is personal, not a tool for a PR strategy.
Pain and the subsequent suffering that always accompany it are handled only by those closest to you. And when the one closest sticks as a unit, suffering becomes a chapter, which, when you turn back the pages and read, is sure to make you drop buckets of tears. Riteish could have said much more when he paused and looked at Genelia. He deliberately avoided looking into her eyes because he knew he could not read the whole chapter, as the chapter is over. The memories of the pain remain… as a reminder of going through the furnace with love and conviction that there is a God above.
When The Chapter is over, Memories Remain
This is exactly what happened in that video. Riteish was unconsciously reading pages from the recent past in his mind and was being his vulnerable self, as he realised what a ROCK Genelia has been.
This is not to say that Riteish has not been a ROCK.
Thanks, Riteish and Genelia, for exposing your vulnerable side.
The world needs to know that Bollywood is not all glamour and glitz, and about lights, camera and flying kisses. And about being ‘spotted’ and staged PR. The world also needs to know that marriage is a sacred union of two hearts and two souls and two vulnerable humans having different perspectives on life, walking in fame and fire, hand-in-hand.
We have been fed with your ‘couple banter’ reels these past three years, and let me tell you, it has been funny and inspiring and brings out the chemistry you two share.
That became evident on a live platform, inadvertently.
The industry loves you. Remember, we at Opening Doorz love you two, and your two, Rihaan and Rahyl.
Hoping to see the older one blaze away on the drums!
