Kapil Dev knows best

Kabir Khan’s 83 is fast approaching release date and special focus till now was on the then World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev. Only recently was the entire team poster released where you also have a Syed Kirmani and a Dilip Vengsarkar and a Sandeep Patil and a Mohinder Amarnath (actors representing them) and all the other cricketers who played in the Historic World Cup in 1983. Maybe Kapil is miffed the limelight is going off him and now wants to shift the focus back on him with quotes on Rishabh Pant and M S Dhoni.

I’m a joking!

A few days ago, Kapil was quoted as telling Rishabh Pant not to get disheartened. “Pant will get his chance but he has to make sure, he grabs that one. I would tell Pant not to get disheartened and prove people wrong by saying there’s still a lot of cricket left in him,” Kapil Dev told ABP News.

Javagal Srinath never got disheartened even as Kapil Dev went in search of his records… he knew ‘the phrase even then: ‘Apna Time Ayega’

Kapil should know about cricketers not getting disheartened—Javagal Srinath is a prime example. Srinath never got disheartened even as Kapil continued in search of his records as the Karnataka speedster kept running with drinks on the field. Srinath knew his time would come!

The only cricketer whose time never came was Raju Kulkarni. Every cricket lover knows his story! Kapil Dev knew about his talent!

But yes, Kapil is right in saying that it will be difficult for M S Dhoni to get back in the Indian cricket team: He is backing Pant for that job.

I’m a joking!

Son plays father…

Since we are on 83, and the squad, the poster also reveals Chirag Patil who will play his father Sandeep Patil in the film. Chirag, who is well-known in Marathi film circles, is also the son-in-law of former India cricketer Salil Ankola: he is married to his daughter, Sana Ankola. The makeover comes as close to the dashing cricketer as he was during that time, just like Ranveer Singh and Kapil Dev. Chirag we hear is a promising actor. Sandeep, too tried to make a mark in Bollywood with Kabhi Ajnabi The—his innings was short-lived. Salil Ankola too has been on the television circuit for quite some time now. Cricket-wise, with the background of his father and father-in-law, we know that he will get his shots right. Here’s hoping Chirag shines!

Toss-up between Pant and Dhoni…

Coming back to Rishabh Pant, methinks that this is just a passing phase for the swashbuckling wicket-keeper-batsman. India will soon need a specialized keeper and will not be able to afford to keep K L Rahul behind the wickets, across formats, throughout the year. Rahul Dravid did that duty for Indian cricket for long, but at the end of the day, you do need a specialized wicket-keeper in any cricket team. So where does that leave M S Dhoni? He might make a comeback as a medium-pacer.

I’m a joking!
