Global boxing icon Mike Tyson unveiled his future strategic plans for his franchise of fitness centres called the Mike Tyson Academy (MTA) at an exclusive press conference held yesterday, at Atlantis The Palm, Dubai. The team behind this highly anticipated project showed a preview for the academy that illustrated the models for the four proposed gym structures, which included the Premier Gyms, Full-Service Gyms, Standard Gyms and Express Gyms.

MTA’s goal is to be the leading franchise of fitness and boxing centres both around the world and in the US. The brand currently has centres in the pipeline in Bahrain, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, Cyprus, Greece, India, Pakistan, Morocco, France, China, Switzerland and South America with a Premier Academy slated to open in Las Vegas by 2018. In the UAE, plans are already underway for academies to open in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Speaking about the collaboration, Co-Founder and CEO, Fred Madzimba said, “We are thrilled to present this unique partnership opportunity and to be part of a venture with one of the biggest names in fitness and boxing.”

All types of gym will house a legendary boxing ring, training area, MX4 training bays, group training and fitness classrooms. The bigger-sized academies will also boast Mike’s Memorabilia Museum, juice bar or health café and spa amenities including pool, sauna and steam. All academy trainers will have a Mike Tyson Certificate and will use Mike Tyson’s fitness techniques and discipline to be able to work and manage clients in the gym. Mike and his team will personally select these core trainers for his academies.

Mike hopes to stay true to his own philosophy and every centre will feature the most advanced fitness equipment available on the market. Speaking about his academies, Mike said, “I once said if you can change your mind, you can change your life. The Mike Tyson Boxing Academy will enable you to do that. My core team of trainers, the people who I trust will be the apex trainers of my heart.”

Speaking about his chequered career and his goals for the future, the boxing legend said: “I have learned a lot of things throughout my boxing career. Some I’ve learned the hard and painful way. My hope is to be able to pass on the best trainings I’ve gained to the next generation of athletes. Through the Mike Tyson Academy, and the support of all these international entities that share our goal, these fitness centres will be available for the global community to use and take advantage of. I’m extremely grateful to be part of it and excited for it to positively contribute to the fitness journey of our clients.”
