Raj Kapoor (1924-88): Actor, director and film producer all rolled into one, Raj Kapoor was one of the most prolific personalities in Bollywood. Son of the legendary actor Prithviraj Kapoor, he was earlier called Ranbirraj Kapoor. He established R K studio at Chembur in Bombay in 1950. He started his own production company R K Films in 1948. In his films, one often came across qualities of the tramp portrayed by him (similar to that of Charlie Chaplin’s films). In his earlier films, he and Nargis made a famous romantic pair starring in such popular films as Awara and Shri 420.
Some of his most popular films are: Aag, Barsaat, Andaz, Awara, Shri 420, Jagte Raho, Boot Polish, Sangam, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Teesri Kasam, Mera Naam Joker etc.
Some of the later films directed by him became big hits such as Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Prem Rog and Ram Teri Ganga Maili.
