Anisa Butt will next be seen in Code M, an army-based web series for Alt Balaji. Directed by Akshay Choubey, this thriller sees Anisa in a role different from the others she has portrayed so far. “I play the role of Gayatri, a supporting but imperative character to the story,” reveals Anisa of the web series which airs from January 15, 2020.

Code M also stars Jennifer Winget, who plays Major Monica Mehra, Anisa’s best friend from childhood. And it is the trauma that Gayatri (Anisa) goes through that pushes Major Monica to investigate the case and forms the basis of the story.

Anisa Butt Code M
“Code M is in a really authentic space for all the characters,” says Anisa Butt

Anisa had to go through the usual grind of auditions of landing the role and shot for the series last year in various locations around Mumbai and Pune. Speaking on her experience on working in a Web Series, Anisa says, “I have done a couple of Web Series before as well. This is my second time working with Alt Balaji. Being a Web Series doesn’t make it much different from shooting for a feature film other than a much tighter schedule essentially.”

Ask her if Web Series are taking over the space of Television Serials in India and the UK-born actress is to the point: “I don’t believe television in India is losing its audience any time soon. However, yes the Web, I believe, more than film (at the moment) has gained upward traction. It would be interesting to see what the future holds!”

Finally, considering Web is banking on ‘hot content’ we ask her opinion on that. “It honestly depends on the script for me and what the character is, and what the story is. So I haven’t had to do so (hot scenes). This series I believe was in a really authentic space for all the characters, as much as possible, it’s definitely more of a thriller/drama.”

Catch the multi-faceted Anisa Butt in Code M, beginning Wednesday, and stay tuned for an update on January 18 as we ‘Unplug with Ani’, here on Opening Doorz.
