Workout Routine

My workouts were actually planned by my gym trainer, so it was almost a month-and-a-half after the lockdown was implemented, that I could re-start exercising on a routine.  After a few days of trial and error, a home-workout program seemed to perfectly fit into my daily routine. Before the pandemic, I exercised 5 to 6 days a week for about 45 minutes to 1 hour, coupled with the occasional swim and a game of badminton.  During the lockdown, even the thought of exercising in the gym or in a public park was simply out of question.

The reason I started working out again was to feel energetic, not appearance. I came across many home workouts on YouTube that required no equipment, just a yoga mat, which I found suitable for me. I would recommend Shilpa Shetty’s exercises on YouTube; she has numerous videos on her channel and always keeps an exerciser engaged.

Other than the above, I prefer a brisk-walk on the beach. I live a stone’s throw away from the beach in Goa! I believe it is a good way to keep my body in good shape and also keep my mind relaxed.

Eating Habits

I am a foodie and don’t feel ashamed to admit it. Food fuels my energy and tickles my taste buds. My mother, who I consider a wizard chef, has a lot of recipes up her sleeve and indulges me often. I love home-made food, especially what she and my grandmother cooks. My breakfast includes either idli, poha or fruit salad. Okra, daal and kala chana are my favorite. I prefer tea over coffee: green tea with biscuits is my delightful evening snack. There are times when I crave for sev-puri, chaat and dabeli. Like I mentioned earlier, food gives me great pleasure and sometimes in my opinion, I feel it is okay to give in to these temptations.

I sometimes do track my macros but it gets too overwhelming to see those numbers, so most of the times I try to eat a clean meal and that is good enough for me. I drink a lot of water as it cleanses the body and gives a good glow to the skin. An eating tip I swear by is to eat food in a katori. If I wish to eat anything sweet, I usually eat it before 4 pm.

Spiritual Quotient

I have a spiritual teacher who conducts a 45-minute guided meditation class once a week. I attend these regularly. My way of de-stressing is to involve myself in work distractions. Walking on the ramp with everyone’s eyes glued on me calms me. Praying to the Almighty gives me peace of mind and inner strength. Since a very young age, it has been my daily evening practice to recite the Angelus [The Angelus is a Catholic devotion commemorating the Incarnation] with my family. All Christian households practice this. I believe that God has blessed me with positive people all around me and whatever be the mystery of tomorrow, I can thank God for today! I observe a few minutes of silence at the start of each day which helps both my mind and body to clear out any negativity that may be inside of me. This helps me make decisions with absolute clarity of thought. I would assess myself as a pretty calm and easygoing person.
