The ladies wing of the IMC, one of India’s oldest and most credible women’s organizations, hosted a preview of the much-awaited film Padman, starring Akshay Kumar and Radhika Apte for its members at Inox Cinemas, Nariman Point on Thursday, February 08. Attending the event were Director R Balki and his wife Gauri Shinde along with Sony Pictures Managing Director, Vivek Krishnani.
Watching women come out in huge numbers for this special screening was a special feeling; after all this was a movie celebrating a woman.
Nayantara Jain, President of the Ladies’ Wing of the IMC said: “The objective of the screening was to help create awareness and eradicate prevalent superstitions in India surrounding sanitary pads. Furthermore, it was also to educate the masses (both men and women) about menstrual hygiene and to stop labeling it as a stigma or taboo in society.”
Director R Balki who answered questions after the screening was at his affable best. Taking questions from Aarti Surendranath who curated the entire event, Balki batted without a pause. A couple of times when he side-stepped tricky questions, Aarti gently led him back into focus, wanting her questions answered. Watching her from the sidelines conduct the interview with such grace, gently questioning her guest without so much as getting into his space or being over-bearing [as is the wont of many journalists] was like a breath of fresh air. It was as though one was watching a seasoned pro in the studio.
Mind you, there were no cuts or retakes: This was full-on, full-flow, keeping the conversation intelligent and stimulating and yet extracting things which the audience wanted to hear without a paper in hand!
Has India found their newest Talk Show Host? You bet! The Times Now!
To support the ongoing initiative of the Pad Man Challenge, members of the wing posed with the sanitary napkins.
