Thirty nine years after Muqaddar Ka Sikander’s release, actor and DJ Shilpi Sharma, Jasmine Sandlas and Arko Pravo Mukherjee come together to re-invent one of the classics from that film, Salaam-e-Ishq, which promises to be one of the chartbusters of 2017. Shilpi’s confidence and the newness in her demeanor, Arko’s aesthetic eye and Jasmine’s knack for singing makes the trio a welcome addition to the star music brigade.

“Our single Salaam-e-Ishq opens with a fun verse and then launches into a club vibe with groovy beats. When the song speeds up, it sounds very party-like which enhances the mood of the song,” reveals Shilpi who along with Arko and Jasmine gives this iconic song her funky twist.

“We have ensured the essence of the original is not lost by keeping the arrangement peppy, not messing with the infectious intro and introducing my own little jam section to the song,” reveals Shilpi, whose foray into music was accidental. “It’s great that we’re able to revamp some of the old tunes. There are some beautiful melodies and lyrics and when given a modern twist, help introduce the youth to the classics.”

“A DJ has to be focused and dedicated. A DJ must understand his/her audience and build a connect with them. Having knowledge about the beats is not sufficient, it’s about the way you modify it and keep your audience engrossed,” adds Shilpi, explaining the manner in which care had to be taken not to trivialize the classic.

Arko Pravo Mukherjee, music director of the single says, “The market is flooded with remixes and other versions of old songs but there are rare pieces of work that hold a connect with the audience. With Salaam-e-Ishq we want to glorify the remix trend which as of today is one of hottest upcoming trends.”

Jasmine Sandlas who has lent her voice says, “The reworked, retuned version of the yesteryear’s hit will have everyone groove to the tune. Our revamped and rejuvenated version has enhanced the energy to a different level altogether.”

The video has been shot in exquisite locations of Dubai, making it one of the most stylized videos in a long time. In fact, one has not seen a video shot on such a grand scale ever since Himmesh Reshammiya went off the music radar and music channels started playing songs from films as opposed to videos which were being shot 19 to the dozen 20 years ago.

For Shilpi, music was an escape after she lost her father. “I was heart-broken and did not know what to do. I was traumatized, an emotional wreck; I had friends who were into music and that is how I entered into the world of music.”

As a DJ, Shilpi has made a name for herself within a short span of three years performing all over. With Salaam-e-Ishq, she plans to raise the bar much higher.

The song releases tomorrow at 2.30pm.
