The essence: Hardik Mehta (in a little under seven minutes) brings to life, life in a joint family where married couples have no space for intimacy, and the busy back-bay promenade where couples, with backs to the world, facing the sea, are lost in a sea of emotions. Don’t miss the groping hands, quick amateur kisses and even selfies trained on busy twosomes.

To enter home with lipstick on your collar can be quite disastrous. But this Mumbai man, caught in the daily grind of his work, focused on establishing targets for his bosses and the company he works for (as is subtly amplified, with a cursory glimpse of a certificate of appreciation hanging on the wall), is bindaas, to say the least.

Nonchalantly, he rings the doorbell after work, after a quick rendezvous with a female ‘friend’. They have just half an hour to get cozy by the seaside, but constant messages and calls on his mobile cuts short their frenzied intimacy as she walks away in a huff.

Tired and dejected, he rings the doorbell of his home where he lives with his old parents, unmarried brother (always plonked in front of the television set) and sister (with fingers stuck to her phone). His daughter runs up to him and without remorse of the ‘affair’ by the seaside spends time with her. The little girl points out to the lipstick on his collar, he rushes to the bathroom to clean off the offending stain, his mother chatters in the background… then his wife slides to make space near the sink to help him wipe it off!

It is when the lights go out and the man on the back-bay promenade, with his daughter sleeping by his side, and wife on a diwan above, tries to steal a kiss (with other members of his family all sleeping besides) that the story comes a full circle!

A slice of Mumbai life where couples try to ‘make lips meet’.

Watch it for Amit Sail and Khushboo Upadhyay. Also watch it for those many couples with the backs to the camera who perform with soul!
