Raima Sen on her workout routine, eating habits and spiritual quotient…
I work out regularly. However, there is no particular routine attached to it. I sometimes workout at the gym, sometimes do Zumba and sometimes Hot Yoga. I love Zumba as I am a dance freak. I have also developed an immense liking for Hot Yoga over the years as it also helps in building flexibility. I sometimes also add the Hula Hoop, Surya Namaskar, Pilates and Aqua-Robics to my workout regime. Your mind and body are both exposed to new things and this way you will never get bored of working out in the gym and doing run-of-the-mill strength training and cardio.
Salmon Fish and Broccoli is my favorite food. I like home-cooked Bengali food. I’m also a big fan of Italian food and hence find it difficult to stick to a strict diet regimen. I eat what I like but in small proportions. I begin my day with a glass of mixed vegetable juice and flavored oats. Egg white sandwiches and salads are spread through the day. I eat light at night. I sometimes give in to my uncontrollable dessert cravings, but I don’t binge.
I believe in God, but not in idol worship. I believe in karma and destiny as well. I have heard people say that Buddhism makes you more positive and peaceful. After a friend of mine introduced me to the teachings of Buddhism, I began reading about it. I believe that everybody needs something to hold on to and believe in, and for me it’s Buddhism now.
I don’t usually visit places of worship, but I have been to Siddhivinayak Temple and Sai Baba’s shrine, Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Mahakali Temple in Calcutta. I don’t recite any particular prayers as such, but I do know the Gayatri Mantra. I did have a religious upbringing. We would celebrate the Durga Puja and other Bengali festivals at home. I was more religious when I was younger, than I am now.
Whenever I feel low or in times of trouble, I introspect about the things around me, and I talk to God. I think it is important for everyone to be aware of their own being and connect with their inner-self. I would advise people to have faith and believe in themselves.
